The Reuven Moskowitz Foundation – Music for Peace is a non-profit organization that represents the legacy of our father, grandfather, and teacher, Reuven Moskowitz, whose aim was to find common ground between people, and to strive for peace between all the inhabitants of the Land of Israel and its neighbors.
We decided to establish a framework for joint artistic activity. In order to accomplish this, we combined his love of music with his vision of promoting dialogue and mutual understanding between Jews and Palestinians. It is our belief that music is a language of the heart and spirit. Regardless of religion, race, gender, or nationality, this language is capable of uniting and connecting people of different backgrounds.
:Our vision
Through this foundation, it is hoped to establish a venue for musical and political education. This will provide a framework and a home for various institutions that are engaged in the promotion of peace through artistic and research endeavors. In the future, the foundation will be located in a facility designed to provide holistic training in music for excellence. This will emphasize critical studies, culture, and philosophical practices, as well as mindfulness and Nonviolent Communication.
This institution follows a model echoed by multiple institutions in Israel and abroad. These institutions believe music education is more than just perfecting musical abilities, participating in ensembles, competitions or orchestras, but rather emphasizes the intercultural and humanistic aspects of the discipline.
:Objectives
- Accompanying talented musicians, Jews and Palestinians, from the beginning of their journey until they become professional musicians. Awarding scholarships to finance their studies.
- Providing guidance and support to talented musicians during their journey to professional status, preferably with an advanced degree.
- Creating a platform for multicultural and interdisciplinary artistic initiatives in
the form of concerts, festivals, workshops and performances. - Awarding scholarships to students at the Zeriab school in Nazareth,
under the direction of the musician Sameer Makhoul, for music studies
(It's been happening for the past two years). - Music collaborations and workshops promoting closer communication
between Jews and Arabs, through joint musical activities. - Establishing programs to assist students with applying to schools in
Israel and abroad - writing resumes, scheduling private music lessons,
preparing for interviews and auditions, and learning English.

:Plans for 2023-2024
- A primary objective for 2023 will be to refine and expand the scholarship
system which has been developed using private funds of the Moskowitz
family over the past two years. The increase in resources will be accomplished gradually through donations from Israel and abroad, which will serve as the
main support for students to achieve their full potential as professional artists. - The opening event of the "Reuven Moskowitz Foundation – Music for Peace"
will be held at Wahat al Salam – Neve Shalom on the 6th of May 2023, which
will include a concert, workshops, talks and lectures. - An opening ceremony for the 'Reuven Moskowitz – Music for Peace' fund
will be held in Berlin, Germany. - An open call for artistic projects involving Jews and Palestinians, to take
place until December 31, 2024. - Offering workshops throughout the country on the topics of musical interculturality
and communication between musicians.

:Some personal words from Smadar Emor - the Foundation’s director
“Our father, Reuven Moskowitz, had a compassionate heart that drove him to seek peace and dialogue throughout his life. Since his passing in 2017, it seems that his dreams have been passed down to us. In light of the current social and political climate, his work has become increasingly relevant, and we strive to preserve his spirit in the world of today. My father began playing the violin at the age of five, following in the footsteps of his father (my grandfather), who was also a violinist and cantor. Rather than following sheet music, my father played, by ear, from his heart as a musician. Later on, every encounter with him, whether it be a lecture or conference, ended with him playing the violin or harmonica. He believed that music was the most direct way to connect with the human heart and it was the most powerful tool he used.
Even as we were mourning the loss of our beloved father, we were fortunate to meet the talented musician Sameer Makhoul, who runs a music conservatory in Nazareth. Two concerts in 2021 and 2022, in which we participated, have shown that the seeds we planted two years earlier are already bearing fruit. All members of the family were invited to attend these concerts. It is my hope that this collaboration will be the first of many more, and will provide Palestinian and Jewish musicians with the opportunity to learn, play, and develop tools for intercultural dialogue ‒ through that language of the heart that my father had fought for every day of his life.”

״The thinker Hannah Arendt spoke of the "Banality of Evil", I would like to״ add the concept of the "vitality of evil". Over the years, I have come to realize that evil has power, that there is something in it which is more stimulating and enticing than goodness and mercy. As moral people, it is our responsibility to fight against this aspect of human nature”
